Video Satisfaction

Test Sequences

Satisfaction is based on SSIM, which we measured by encoding the following videos (from Xiph.org Test Media) with two pass encoding and FFMPEG with libx264 (links to the encoded videos in brackets):

• Aspen [FTP]
• Big Buck Bunny [FTP]
• Old Town Cross [FTP]
• Pedestrian Area [FTP]
• Sintel Trailer [FTP]
• Snow Mnt [FTP]
• Touchdown Pass [FTP]

The videos provided follow the format videoname_resolution_bitrate.mkv and do not contain audio.

SSIM Values

Here we provide the raw SSIM logs, which we generated using libyuv SSIM tool, for selected videos at screen resolutions 360p, 540p, 720p and 1080p:

Satisfaction Curves

Based on the SSIM data, we fitted SSIM in so called satisfaction curves, following this equation:
, where v is the video, s_u the displays resolution and s_r the videos resolution.
The results are displayed below (click for larger image):
